Lighting Plan Checklist (Designer + Builder Friendly)

Great remodel lighting uses a layered plan: ambient + task + accent.

Whole-home rules

  • [ ] Use 2700K–3000K for a warm coastal feel (avoid harsh blue light)
  • [ ] Use high CRI (90+) where finishes matter (kitchen, bath, living)
  • [ ] Put key rooms on dimmers
  • [ ] Plan switching where you actually walk (3-way switches where needed)

Kitchen

  • [ ] Ambient recessed layout for general light
  • [ ] Task: under-cabinet lighting for counters
  • [ ] Accent: pendants over island
  • [ ] Optional: toe-kick lighting for night navigation

Bathroom

  • [ ] Vanity lighting that avoids shadows (sconce/fixture placement matters)
  • [ ] Wet-rated recessed in showers where needed
  • [ ] Fan/ventilation plan coordinated with lighting

Outdoor

  • [ ] Step/stair lights where needed
  • [ ] Door sconces for safe entry
  • [ ] Pergola/downlights for dining areas
  • [ ] Landscape/path lighting (subtle, not runway-bright)
